Johnny was born March 9, 1943 in the bush near Mistassini, Quebec. He lived with his parents, until at 2 years of age, he lived with his aunt and uncle, who have taught him the cree language and culture. He never attended school. On August 31, 1966 he married Emma (Brien) Shecapio and they had ten children together. He had the opportunity to live in the bush with his family and also had different occupations when he wasn't in the bush. In 1984 he was hired by the Cree School Board to teach the Cree Culture and Language, in Mistissini. |
